Best Time For Oahu Weddings: Why I Always Recommend May

If you’re planning one of the many beautiful Oahu weddings, one of the biggest decisions you’ll make is when to get married. While Oahu is gorgeous year-round, there are definitely some months that make planning a little easier. If you ask me, May is hands down one of the best times to say “I do.” Between the weather, the smaller crowds, and the overall experience for you and your guests, it’s hard to beat!

Why May Is One of the Best Months for Oahu Weddings

One of the biggest reasons I recommend May is the weather. Oahu is coming out of spring, so everything is still lush and green, but you’re usually past the rainiest part of the season. That means you’re more likely to get comfortable temperatures without worrying about constant showers or the intense summer heat. Of course, Hawaii’s weather likes to keep us on our toes, and there’s never a 100% guarantee. But in my experience, May offers some of the most consistent conditions for wedding days. A quick passing shower isn’t uncommon, but they’re often over just as fast as they start.

Oahu Weddings Are Even Better Without the Crowds

Another huge advantage of getting married in May is avoiding some of the busiest tourist seasons. Spring break has wrapped up, summer vacations haven’t started yet, and most kids are still in school. That means beaches, hotels, restaurants, and popular attractions tend to feel a little less crowded. This is especially important because many couples turn their wedding into a full vacation or honeymoon. Since Oahu is the most populated Hawaiian island, it naturally attracts a lot of visitors throughout the year. Choosing a quieter month can make the entire experience feel more relaxed, not just for you, but for everyone traveling to celebrate with you!

A Real May Wedding That Proved Why I Love This Time of Year

One of my couples chose to get married in May, and it reminded me exactly why I recommend this month so often. We had one tiny passing sprinkle right before the ceremony, but it lasted only a few minutes and cleared up just in time for everyone to take their seats. Honestly, it couldn’t have worked out better. The rest of the day was incredibly comfortable. No one was battling extreme heat, sweating through portraits, or trying to escape into the shade every chance they got. Guests were able to enjoy cocktail hour, the ceremony, and the celebration without worrying about the weather, which makes such a difference in the overall experience.
