If you’re planning a wedding on Oahu, where you get ready is one of those decisions that might not seem like a huge deal at first, but it can make such a difference. Some of my favorite Oahu wedding hotels give you more than just a place to do hair and makeup. You have beautiful natural light, enough room for everyone to move around, and spaces throughout the hotel that we can use for first looks and portraits without having to go anywhere else. And when you already have a full wedding day ahead of you, anything that makes the morning easier is a win in my book!

The Moana Surfrider has so much character, which is one of the reasons I love photographing here. The spacious suites are especially nice if you’re getting ready with your bridal party because everyone can actually be in the room without it immediately feeling crowded. There’s room for hair and makeup, dresses, bags, snacks, and all the other things that somehow take over a getting-ready space.
But one of my favorite parts of the hotel is actually outside the room. The staircase has this beautiful old-Hawaiʻi feel, with artwork lining the walls and natural light coming through the windows. It’s such a good spot for a first look or a few portraits before heading to the ceremony. The balconies are another plus, especially if you want a little variety in your photos without adding another location to the timeline.

If your style leans more classic and understated, The Kahala Hotel & Resort is one of the Oahu wedding hotels I would definitely consider. It’s away from the busier parts of Waikīkī, so the entire getting-ready experience can feel a little quieter and more private, which is really nice on a morning when there is already a lot going on.
The suites are spacious, beautifully furnished, and filled with thoughtful details and artwork, so there isn’t much you need to do to make the space photograph well. I also love the balconies overlooking all of the greenery. Between the rooms, balconies, and the rest of the property, we have plenty of options for getting-ready photos, bridal portraits, and first looks without needing to immediately pack everything up and drive somewhere else.

Kaimana Beach Hotel has a completely different feel, and that’s exactly why I love it! It feels colorful, relaxed, and very Oahu without leaning too hard into the typical tropical hotel look. If you want your getting-ready photos to have a little more personality, this is such a fun option.
And the lobby might honestly be my favorite part. There’s a huge gallery wall filled with beach and Hawaiʻi-inspired artwork that makes the best backdrop for photos. Instead of being limited to whatever we can find inside the hotel room, we can step downstairs and immediately have another completely different setting to work with. Plus, being right by the beach gives you even more options if your timeline allows for a few portraits outside.

This is exactly why I always encourage my couples to actually think about where they’re getting ready instead of automatically choosing the closest hotel. A pretty room is great, but I’m also looking at the amount of natural light, how much space there is around the windows, whether your wedding party can comfortably fit, and what other areas around the property we can use for photos.
You’ll also want to think about your wedding-day timeline. If your getting-ready hotel is far from your ceremony venue, that drive needs to be built into the day, and Oahu traffic is definitely something you don’t want to forget about. Choosing a hotel that’s close to your venue, or one where you’re also having your ceremony and reception, can make the transition into the rest of the day so much easier!

Your getting-ready space is where so much of your wedding day begins. It’s where you’ll put everything on, hang out with your favorite people, take some of your first photos of the day, and probably have that moment where it finally hits you that you’re actually getting married. So yes, choose somewhere pretty, but also choose somewhere that gives you room to enjoy it.
